Does Pet Sematary have a post credits scene?

The new Pet Sematary by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer is close to release, but the question already arises: does it have a post-credit scene that opens up to a new franchise?

Pet Sematary of 2019 is the second re-adaptation of Stephen King's 1983 novel, widely regarded as one of his most frightening works. The first version was translated on the big screen by Mary Lambert in 1989 (with a more violent sequel in 1992) and, unlike the aforementioned which tried to be as faithful as possible to the original story, this new interpretation by the directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer makes no secret of wanting to take some licenses.

Now, the central story of Pet Sematary remains the same: a doctor and his family move to a remote house in Maine next to a forest, inside which there is a "harmless" pet cemetery located on a little less harmless burial ground.

But the film decides to diverge from the previous book and film in some rather curious ways, to the point that, while the minutes pass, the viewer can legitimately arise the doubt that he wants to create fertile ground for a potential sequel.

But if there is a modern Pet Sematary 2, the film does not explicitly refer to it: Pet Sematary does not have a post-credit scene.

However, this does not mean that the viewer should simply rush out after the finale. It is worth staying beyond the credits for the cover of the "Pet Sematary" by Ramones revisited by Starcrawler. It is not as interesting as the original, but it is worth at least one listening.

The famous punk rock band song they played was written by Dee Dee Ramone after meeting King, a big Ramones fan, and published simultaneously with the release of the 1989 film in the album Brain Drain. Although it was not received positively by critics, the song became a cult thanks to the film, so it is logical that it was dusted off for the occasion. Include something that so explicitly refers to the original Pet Sematary, although in the end credits, is an interesting move in the remake, despite the directors' choice to set it free.

Although there is no post-credit scene in Pet Sematary, this does not exclude the possibility of a sequel. The original film has one, after all, and horror franchises have historically been proven successes. The producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has recently stated that there is certainly room for a Pet Sematary prequel that can explore the previous uses of the cemetery (and probably expanding more the history of the Windingo spirit).
