We believed more, Disney and Marvel Studios have just made the decision to rehire James Gunn to work on the film The Guardians of Galaxy 3. This is a real surprise following the dismissal of the director very quickly after the controversy, especially that Disney did not seem to want to change its mind.
James Gunn was fired last July after a controversy about humorous tweets posted on Twitter years ago since he tackled sensitive topics such as pedophilia or rape. Pointed the finger, James Gunn had immediately admitted to posting these tweets in very bad taste. Unfortunately, Disney was quick to part with the director.
According to Deadline, Alan Horn, the president of Disney Pictures has had multiple interviews with the director to discuss the situation. Once the controversy fell, Horn finally made the decision to resume James Gunn. He will be in charge of the script and the realization of the movie The Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
If the rumors all the same evoked that Disney and Marvel were working on the recruitment of another director, they were finally denied at the same time. Yet Taika Waititi and Adam McKay had been approached.
James Gunn also took the opportunity to thank his fans on Twitter:
I am extremely grateful to everyone here who has supported me over the last few months. I am still learning, and I will continue to practice becoming the best possible human being. I really appreciate Disney's decision, and I'm very excited about continuing to make films that explore the bonds of love that bind us all together. I have been, and I continue to be incredibly touched by your love and support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I love you all.
At the moment we do not know the release date of Guardians of Galaxy 3, but the film should not see the light of day before 2021. James Gunn is still attached to the project of the reboot film Suicide Squad whose filming will start next September .
