We have news about this processor. The new chip will still be produced at 7 nm, like Kirin 980, but will use a more precise process called EUV Lithography. The improvement is summarized by saying that the Kirin 985 is produced with a 7+ nm system (a bit like Intel's 14 ++ nm).
Furthermore, it seems that Huawei is trying to accelerate the development and production process of its chips. If so far the HiSilicon Kirin chips (owned by Huawei) covered the requirement of 40%, by the end of the year this level should rise to 60%. MediaTek will surely lose.
