Netflix could completely change its interface. According to Reed Hastings, the group's CEO, the VOD service could ultimately become closer to the presentation of a magazine. In the same way, the interface will have to be able to adapt to the habits of the subscribers. We take stock of what is cooking the leader of streaming.
In a Q & A session, Reed Hastings spoke about upcoming changes to the streaming platform, reports MobileSyrup. According to the CEO, the current interface of Netflix "does not look like a magazine where everything is beautifully presented." In the future, he wants the content grid of the Netflix catalog to create a "visual interest" every time and move away from the current presentation, which is reminiscent of "classifieds".
And if Netflix completely changed its interface?
Rest assured, the Netflix interface will remain recognizable. Steve Johnson, vice president of product and studio design, says the interface will not change fundamentally. "What we see is that the interface works relatively well in the world" tempers the manager. According to him, the interface is already easy to use because other competitors offer more or less the same thing: users are therefore used to it.
"I do not think it will work forever. And I think we need to go further, "says Steve Johnson. "The routines and behaviors will work this way: if I watch an episode of The Umbrella Academy every night on my way home, when we turn on Netflix tomorrow, we can just start the next episode of The Umbrella Academy," says the manager. The VOD service will adapt to your habits, as the Netflix algorithm adapts to your tastes. On Friday night, the interface could also enlarge the thumbnails of the films. That's when subscribers watch the most movies.
Hundreds of tests are currently underway in the world, says Johnson. Before deploying new options, the Los Santos company wants to collect the opinions of Internet users. "We let our members choose the types of features that work best for them," said Cameron Johnson, director of innovation at Netflix. For now, less than half of the novelties tested are acclaimed by subscribers. What do you think of the options imagined by Netflix? Does the current interface need to be improved?
