Not even the king of the first-person shooters Doom managed to save himself from the cursed fate of the cinematic transpositions of cult videogames, with the commercial and critical disaster of Andrzej Bartkowiak's 2005 film starring Karl Urban, Dwayne Johnson and Rosamund Pike, the most great flop of the career of The Rock after Faster (2010).
After 14 years, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura produces Doom Annihilation, reboot of the franchise that will tell the events of the first glorious video game of 1993 and that seems to be destined directly to home video.
Doom Annihilation follows the story of a group of space marines that respond to a distress call from a base located on a Mars moon.
The assault team will discover at its own expense that the base has been invaded by demonic creatures that threaten to open the gates of Hell on Earth.
After the release of the first trailer, prey to an unusual amount of attacks by the fandom, id Software and the Bethesda property took their distance, declaring that they were not involved in any way and at any level in the making of the film.
The comparison with the trailer of the 2005 film is not so merciless, whereas a second-rate cast is joined by a gore-like nightmare atmosphere that seems more engaging than the previous Doom, despite the low budget available. It also appears that the film will also present first-person shots.
For the moment, we are not picky and we support Amy Manson, Jemma Moore and Nina Bergman, heroes of Doom Annihilation.
